What to bring when traveling with a dog - air travel edition
Our dog Frodo have traveled internationally, with one transit from New York to Frankfurt and then from Frankfurt to Athens, with the same legs coming back. Fortunately, the actual trip went well, but preparing for the journey proved to be a bit of a hassle. To ensure that Frodo's journey was safe and comfortable, we have compiled a list of items that we used. Unfortunately, dog toys were not allowed for safety reasons, but everything else was covered, and Frodo arrived at each destination looking happy and worry-free.

Other items / tasks to prepare for
- Check in with your vet (if travelling internationally). You'll need a health certificate before your pet can travel. Your vet can also assist you with complying with travel regulations.
- Check regulations for both outbound and inbound countries.
- Put a used t-shirt in the kennel for added comfort.
- Include a printed introduction of your pet for the kennel handlers. This information, placed in a vinyl sleeve and attached to the crate's top, helps them understand your pet's needs and preferences.
- Extra food for the journey. Frodo transited in Frankfurt, and we chose it precisely because it has a pet lounge for transit. He got let out and fed in Frankfurt, which provided a much-needed break for such a long journey.
